For many visa-free visitors, the Philippines requires a valid ticket for the return journey or onward travel to another country. The Philippine Embassy in The Hague states this for its 30-day visa-free scheme. Your nationality and visa category determine which conditions apply, so confirm them before departure.
Your airline may check the document before boarding, and Philippine immigration may check it on arrival. The Bureau of Immigration lists a return or onward ticket for tourists when applicable. Do not rely on having avoided a check on a previous trip.
What the document should show
- your name as it appears on your passport
- travel from the Philippines to another country, or a return journey
- a departure date compatible with the stay currently permitted for your entry
- a readable booking or ticket record that can be checked through its stated channel

Ticket or temporary reservation?
A temporary flight reservation is not an issued ticket. A PNR may help verify that a booking exists, but it does not turn the booking into a ticket or guarantee acceptance where a valid ticket is required. Confirm with your airline or the relevant authority whether your document satisfies the specific rule. If a reservation is accepted, check that it remains active during the checks; then you can review reservation options.
Before you travel
Check the current official conditions for your passport and visa type. Keep the required document accessible at check-in and arrival, with a route and date that match your actual plans. If you hope to extend your stay later, do not treat that future approval as permission you already hold.
